Why Do I Need This book?

That’s a very good question. Why should you pay for this book when you have a perfectly good computer and it comes with all kinds of disks and manuals?

First off, have you ever read the manuals? If you have, did you understand them? And did the manuals tell you what to do when the computer doesn’t work? I didn’t think so. Beyond the rudimentary direction to call an 800 number, that isn’t normally anything in the manuals about what to do if your computer breaks.

“But doesn’t my warranty cover any problems?” You ask. Well, the answer is a resounding… maybe. It depends on what the problem is. And you normally have to rely on the manufacturer to help you decide what the problem really is.

The contents of this book are designed to help you understand how your computer works, the kind of problems you can encounter, how to recover from them and more importantly: how to prevent a lot of them from happening.

This book contains tips and techniques I developed over a six year period when my wife and I owned a computer repair business. These are many of the same techniques that your local or franchised computer repair shop use to fix your computer, but instead of paying them what could be several hundreds of dollars you will learn them for the cost of this book. It also contains a section on the Web and the Internet and what you can expect to happen when you go online with your computer.

The key to keeping your computer running smoothly is basic maintenance. There are things you need to do to a computer every day, every week, every month and every quarter.

No, your manuals normally won’t say anything about this. Computer manufacturers are not responsible for the upkeep of your computer, you are. In this book we will explore many different aspects of the computer. It is written for the average home computer user, but the contents are applicable to any Windows-based computer. Whether you try this on your home or corporate computer, you will see some interesting results.

So, take the time to read the book through before you start anything. I promise you will look at your computer differently once you are done with the book.
